Luminous much? We’re wrapping up our Love Your Skin series with pure radiance in human form. We spotted Chrisauntae on IG earlier this year and were instantly obsessed. Little did we know her inspiring story would be a study in how taking care of your skin can help you see it in a whole new light. Now, we’re not suggesting you need a complicated routine, but with a few simple steps and a bit of attention on the daily you can unlock a complexion that makes you feel renewed from the inside out.

Here’s her story:

What do you love about your skin?

One word I always use to describe my skin is milky. It’s almost like a cloud, and sometimes I think I look pretty ethereal. I kind of glow.

Did you always feel this way about your skin?

No, not specifically. I think I always thought I looked different than everyone else. So when I started to grow up and started to really you know, find myself and love myself, I started to find different, more positive words to describe to describe myself and my skin. [In the past] I would have called it dull, because I didn't used to take care of it back then. And it was, kind of. Then, once I started taking care of my skin, it started to get better and better.

How do you take care of your skin?

I like to double cleanse and I use a lot of coconut oil for my hair, for my skin, for my face, basically for everything. And then I use micellar water, usually the Garnier one because it’s pretty gentle. I also use Cetaphil because it's really gentle. The micellar water and coconut oil kind of takes [my makeup] all away. Then I pat my skin dry, never rub [it] because wrinkles and whatnot. I've recently started to use witchhazel as a toner. And I’ve started using [exfoliating] acids, serums and face oils, but I haven't found a perfect moisturizer yet. But I do like to try a lot of different things. I love a good thick moisturizer. I have really dry skin, I used to think I had oily skin but it was compensating for how dry it was.

How did you get into modelling and what do you love about it?

I got into modeling when I was 16. I think that year I started theater because I really wanted to do acting. I really wasn't sure how I was going to get into the field of acting and I started posting pictures on Instagram, because my cousin was like, get on Instagram and start posting. She was like, ‘you should really model’ and she really inspired me to use hashtags. You know, like the hashtags that all the different agencies use, and I was scouted by an agent. At first I thought it was a scam! I waited maybe three years until I graduated high school and then my current mother agent in New York contacted me again, and they really wanted to sign me again. And I said yes and signed with an agency in Toronto.
What do I like about it? Meeting all the different people. It's not even the pictures, like meeting all these different people who are so artistic, and so creative, so accepting and beautiful.
