Eyebrows. They rate high on the list of beauty topics we’ll never tire of. Pret-ty, pret-ty high. As the numero uno, game-changing facial feature, their importance cannot be overstated. “Brows are the framework and the structure to the face,” says celeb makeup artist and brow expert Danielle Kimiko Vincent, who shares her expert advice below. Those fuzzy bits manage to carry incredible sway while also being subject to easy and dramatic manipulation on a daily basis. Well groomed brows have the power to make you look younger, more awake and can add dimension that’s as impactful as well-executed contouring. If you’re blessed with eyebrows as full and dark as our girl Preet here, congratulations! Admittedly, we’re just a little bit jealous. However, it’s rare for truly great brows to naturally occur all on their own. Even the most covetable pair need a helping hand. On a quest to achieve our best brows ever (BBE) we’ve rounded up tips and product recos from women whose arches inspire us, along with the essentials we rely on to turn our brows out.

“Honestly, my fave brow product right now is Glossier Boy Brow. I love filling my brows in with a bit of liner and then brushing them up with this tinted brow gel to give them some life. It totally adds more dimension and movement to my brows!” says Brittnee Blair, a model and actress whose effortlessly fluffy arches remind us of another queen: Béyonce. But Blair admits she’s put in work to get here. “For the longest time I used to overpluck my brows and thought they would never grow back. I used GrandeBrow serum and within weeks I was seeing new growth! It’s incredible. My tip: let those babies grow, and don’t over pluck. I think we’ve all been guilty of over plucking our brows, but natural brows are EVERYTHING.  A little patience and putting the tweezers down goes a long way. Get ready to watch your brows glow up!”

“Brows have high impact but I want them to not be ‘done’, I want it to look like you just rolled out of bed and have these naturally, gorgeous brows,” says Danielle Kimiko Vincent. The LA/NYC-based celebrity makeup artist and brow expert, who often works with fellow Canadian Sandra Oh, is also the creator of KIMIKO Beauty, a clean beauty brand of which this brow pencil is the star. Made in Tokyo, Japan, the low-oil formula, narrow diameter and mindfully developed trio of shades make it easy to build brows that will fool everyone into thinking they’re the real deal. For the most natural results, Vincent encourages the use of short strokes and light pressure to mimic the look of individual hairs. “You want to do little strokes in the direction of hair growth. I will start in the upper outer arch because this is how we lift and define,” she says, “Typically we have more hair in the front [part of the brow] so, instead of starting there and building what we already have, let’s think about balancing that weight and lifting. Keep a little more light on the underside of the arch, I like seeing those indivudal hair sprouting up. And, as you come to the end of the brow you don’t have to follow those last hairs all the way down. That will make the eye go down, if you keep it open it will be lifted.”

“It’s been about three years since I’ve actually had my brows professionally groomed because I’ve found ways at home to keep them in check,” says Belicia Chung, public relations specialist for CAUDALIE Canada and owner of expertly groomed, exquisitely full arches. While she’s blessed with good genetics, she also puts in the work—and swears by a few key products—to keep on top of her brow game. But first, she shares a hack for showing restraint when plucking. “On days that call for a healthy tweeze, I will first lightly fill in my brows to my ideal shape before going to town on the strays that have taken up residence outside of the filled in arch.” When it comes to daily grooming, Chung shares her three step process for keeping her brows in place all day. “Soap brows have changed the game for me because my brow hairs naturally grow downward and I have yet to find a gel out there that will actually groom them to stay up and fluffy on its own. So I dampen a clean spoolie with water, run it through a bar of soap and brush my brow hairs upwards. Any bar of soap will work! Next, I’ll use (and don’t foresee myself ever stop using) the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brown Pomade in Dark Brown. With a thin and angled brow brush, I’ll fill in the tail of my brow first to deposit the most product. Then with what’s left on my brush, I’ll fill in the front half with hair like strokes. I also lightly draw a line at the base of my brow from the front towards the arch to give an illusion of freshly groomed brows. The trick is to not draw a distinct or harsh line or else you have block brows circa 2013 (not my cutest look).” To finish off her masterpiece, she runs Beautycounter Brilliant Brow Gel in Invisible through her filled-in arches to blend any harsh lines and re-fluff the front half of her brows.

“When it comes to my brows I’m very greedy: gimme MORE! But that’s only because I feel like I have none. Sure, there are some wispy hairs and a loose structure, but other than that there’s not a lot to work with and they feel far from my best feature. Compared to my sister, the recipient of arches that are both inky in colour and plush in texture, it is apparent who got the good brows. Over the years, I’ve worked my way through pomades and gel products to get on her level, but for the last while I’ve been pushing pencils. This one has become a verified go-to. The angled, oblong tip is surprisingly versatile. I use the end to create faux hairs, while the wider side helps with shading and shaping. And I swear this spoolie is the best I ever had! That’s right: I’m bragging about a SPOOLIE! Whatever French magic was used in its creation worked, it offers an un-real grip of hairs to facilitate blending – which is a très crucial component of achieving BBE results,” says Ingrie.

“I’m not naturally blessed in the brow category so my arches need a helping hand to look full and balanced. I literally do nothing to them (I haven’t plucked a single hair in years) as I’m really trying to savage what little hair I have! Not only are my arches a tad on the thin side but my hairs are also long, which means a brow gel is key in taming my often scruffed up frames. This one from Dior is a blessing for meager brows as it has tiny volumizing fibres that give a natural-looking boost without looking too ‘done.’ I wear it alone when I just want a bit of definition and pair with a powder (shout to to MAC Omega eyeshadow!) or a pencil on days when I want a fuller look. I also love the small but precise brush that doesn’t overwhelm my little brows during application. It quickly became my go-to to easily achieve the A+ arches I’ve always wanted,” says Emily.
