Do you feel that? Spring is almost here! As we shed our soul-hardening winter layers, we’re ready to embrace a slightly balmier &
brighter season. For this month’s Editor’s Picks, we’re shifting our focus to Canadian beauty brands we love. For obvious reasons, now is the time to go full throttle with support our homegrown companies. And, If you didn’t already know, we’ve got plenty of A+ skincare, makeup and haircare brands
right here that deserve a shoutout.
A few brands have tried
to do customized skincare, but none have nailed it like Omy Labs. This day cream has become a staple in my morning routine and I love that it’s targeted to my skin’s needs (ahem, redness and wrinkles). The base formula is full of vitamin E, green tea extract and hyaluronic acid and other actives are added in to treat my specific concerns. You can even customize the texture and scent (or lack thereof if you’re a fragrance-free fan).
A smarty-pants formula,
this lightweight liquid has high UVA and UVB protection with 20% zinc oxide, a colour-correcting tint that melts into my complexion with no white cast, plus dark spot-busting ingredients, such as blackcurrant seed oil and peony extract. It’s the newest hardworking hero in my AM routine, and made by the WOC, sister-led brand that has been offering inclusive beauty innovations for 25+ years and knows how to deliver a top-seller –so I really should have expected nothing less than the best.
Okay hear me out—
this little face cloth works wonders. The fabric is infused with silver ions, meaning it’s able to naturally eliminate 99.7% of bad bacteria (insert jaw-dropping emoji here). I regularly pair it with one of my go-to cleansers but it can also be used solo to gently refresh the skin. It’s incredible for those with sensitivities as the hypoallergenic fabric won’t cause irritation, plus one cloth can last up to six months, depending how often it’s used.
Radiant cheeks un-locked!
Created by Calgary-based makeup artist Shirley Ibe, this cream blush not only imparts a perfectly peachy shade that instantly revives my whole face but the velvety formula is infused with skin-loving ingredients, such as aloe vera, jojoba seed oil and shea butter, that go the extra distance to elicit a coveted glow.
My eye area has always been tricky.
Not only do I have significant under-eye circles but my skin is chronically crepey and dry af. While I’m a diehard PM retinol user, I’m constantly on the hunt for an AM eye cream to give me round-the-clock care. This formula is mega hydrating (a non negotiable for me) and contains antioxidant-rich rambutan and kangaroo paw flower, which helps with elasticity. Not to mention it beautifully smoothes and preps my under-eyes for concealer.
My ride-or-die styler,
this creamy balm tracks as the curl product I’ve been most loyal to over the years. Whatever is in this magical mix satisfies my multi-textured needs for a dose of hydration, perfect slip, crunch-free definition and lasting hold for curls that can easily be revived the next day or so. It just never lets me down, ya know?! And I love that it also comes in a decently-sized travel tube so my curls have glam support to go.
