Our new drugstore beauty Faves
Because we ❤️ a steal!
What it is: Maybelline New York Cheek Heat Gel-Cream Blush, $11
Why we ❤️ it: We definitely let out a squeal upon meeting these wee blush babes, because #cuuuute. AND because, of all the makeup categories, affordable blush needs the most work. For whatever reason, finding a top-notch version, especially of the creamy variety, has been a challenging task. But that changes NOW! Optically, this formula and packaging appears similar to one offered by a covetable brand, however the gel-cream consistency that blends into skin for a delightfully sheer wash of colour are points of difference and make this a must-try. V easy-to-use, all of the six shades can easily be mix ‘n matched, layered and blended for a customized hue. — I.W.
What it is: L’Oréal Paris Bambi Eye Mascara, $14
Why we ❤️ it: New mascaras come out fast and furious, with each one claiming to give you bigger and better lashes than the million that have come before it. This newbie stands out from the pack with its lightweight formula that glides through your lashes for a clump-free, fan-like finish. Typically, I’m not crazy about plastic mascara wands but this one is easier than most to maneuver around the eye. It really does add a hefty amount of volume but without looking too false lash-y. Expect an instant eye-opening 👀 effect. — E.M.
What it is: Pantene Pro-V Curl Affair Curl (Re)Shaping Balm, $9
Why we ❤️ it: In a lesson in not judging a formula by its consistency (which is definitely a thing, people!), I was surprised to discover this lightweight cream can do some heavy lifting. And defining. Try this if you’re looking to take coils to the next level, it enhances each and every one. Also, obviously it’s all about what’s inside… but we can’t not talk about how luxe this looks, right? 🙌🏽 — I.W.
What it is: Garnier BIO Organic Argan Nourishing Facial Mist, $13
Why we ❤️ it: A hydrating and/or refreshing mist is essential year-round (especially with the latest cold snap in the weather) and this one from Garnier’s newly launched BIO line is a keeper. The certified organic formula has a super light fragrance — so it’s not overpowering like a lot of others on the market — and leaves skin feeling fresh, with a little boost of moisture, but not too wet or sticky. Keep a bottle at your desk for midday misting in a dry office and your skin with thank you. (Also, bonus points for the bottle that’s made from 100% recycled materials.) — E.M.
What it is: Olay Retinol24 Night Serum, Night Moisturizer and Eye Cream, $53 each
Why we ❤️ it: I’ve had a long and irritating road with retinol (read a bit more about that here) and after trying umpteen creams, serums, oils, etc, this collection is among the very few (as in two) products that have kept my skin free from flakes. Olay spent 10 years perfecting these three formulations to maximize efficacy and minimize irritation. Containing a retinoid complex and niacinamide along with amino peptides, the eye cream, serum and moisturizer are all fragrance-free and lightweight enough that you can wear them alone or easily layer with whatever else you’re currently loving for your nighttime routine (just avoid mixing retinol with other active ingredients). And at $53 a piece, you won’t find a better (and gentler) retinol in the drugstore beauty aisle. — E.M.
What it is: Burt’s Bees Tinted Moisturizer, $17
Why we ❤️ it: There’s lots that sparks joy here – whether your eye goes to the 98.8% naturally-derived ingredient list, that boasts sunflower seed oil, squalene and glycerin, or if it’s the budget-friendly price that makes you smile. And, helllloooo versatility! Delivering a hit of hydration + an uptick in complexion uniformity, this makeup bag staple can be worn on its own, as an illuminating base for full-coverage foundation (which you can learn more about here!) OR used as a highlighter on cheekbones and such. So, yeah, this well-balanced tube of tinted moisturizer can work some pretty impressive magic that needs to be in your life. Like, now. — I.W.
