Meet Majok, the second star of our Love Your Skin series. We instantly fell for his incredible bone structure (ummm, hello cheekbones!) and mega watt smile, plus his openness to explore creative self-expression together on our shoot. And while Mama Riri has nudged the beauty world toward seeing that inclusive shade ranges can be a commercial success, we believe that deeper skin tones such as his still deserve more time in front of the camera, more often. As an up and coming face with so much potential, we can’t wait to see what Majok does next!

Here’s his story:

What do you love about your skin today?

My complexion, I like that it’s different. I'm attracted to unique and different things. Even in my personal life with the girls I date, they have a quirk to them.

Did you always feel this way?

Basically, yeah. I always thought of it as being unique. So, I've always felt like that.

How do you take care of your skin?

I try to but I'm so bad. I just try keep it hydrated, but I'm not great at that. Girlfriends have taught me so much more [about skincare] and I'm like, oh my god, I shouldn't be doing all of that, it’s crazy. Nowadays, I'm still learning about taking care of my skin, it’s a work in progress.

On how he got into modeling:

I used to play sports before, I had a scholarship for basketball and wrestling but I was more talented at wrestling. So, I took those offers and I got to like a level where I was wrestling, like, three time Olympians. It gave me exposure to other people and somebody said that I should be on the runway…My tribe in Sudan is big on wrestling. I learned about my culture more and realized I'm doing all this stuff that's kind of already in me. I got to a point where wrestling wasn't something that I wanted to do. I took it as a learning process. It taught me how to work hard and it taught me how to respect other people. One of the things I used to say in wrestling is, we all have struggle in common. You can train the hardest, but it could still not come to you and you kind of have to be fine with that. I take that into [other aspects] of my life. From there, I was getting a lot of contracts, and then I had to make a decision between what I wanted to pursue. So, I just walked into a modeling agency in Toronto.

On what he loves about modeling:

One of the things I feel is super underrated about modeling is that the people that you meet [in the industry] are so unique. Different people with a lot of personality that you would never expect to meet. I don't know if it's because there are a lot of creatives in the industry or what it is, but I’ve definitely met a lot of very interesting people through modeling. That's probably my favourite thing.

On his dream modeling job:

If you were to have asked me last year, it would have been to walk for Virgil [Abloh]. His shows were so interesting. How he built his sets, they were like art in of itself. I remember when he was a part of a DJ group too, his music tastes were super cool to me.
