3 Lippies We’ll Luv 4evR
Happy National Lipstick Day - because we’ll take any excuse to chat you up about an outstanding lippie! With the power to make you feel more confident and primed to face whatever the day or night may bring, a swipe of the right shade of lipstick can have an instant uplifting impact. Whether that comes in the form of a pitch perfect neutral, a striking bright or a classic red hue, these are the tried-and-true colours we reach for to leave a beautiful mark on any moment.
Red Alert
Ingrie’s red lippie: NARS Powermatte High-Intensity Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl, $38
One of the greatest reds that ever was, this intense scarlett shade gives my complexion (and self-esteem) a boost, plus it boasts a long-lasting matte finish formula that will survive an epic dinner. Additional reasons for loving this top notch lip pencil: it has a creamy texture that glides on with ease while the oversize nub facilitates precision along the cupids bow and lip line. If you’re in the market for a red lipstick, put this one at the top of your list – it looks good (like, so good!) on all skin tones.
Emily’s red lippie: Saie Lip Blur in Surreal, $24
Look, I probably have over 50 red lipsticks, 10 to 15 of which I’m deeply devoted to. This pick from Saie is a newbie and I love its hydrating and rich texture, along with how versatile it is. With ‘blur’ in its name, you can really buff out the edges of your lips for a softened effect, or you can go for full impact when applied straight from the tube. It’s also a slim little bullet which I like for my thinner lip shape as it makes application more precise. Added bonus: it has a stain-like effect even if the colour wears off after multiple glasses of wine or a messy meal.
Neutral pathways
Ingrie’s neutral lippie: Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Medium, $47.50
This berry-pink shade is the embodiment of ‘my lips, but better’ which, in my books, is exactly what a standout neutral should achieve. Swiping it on feels like a small act of adulting, like I’m just a bit more polished than before. Beyond being a flawless match for my melanated pout, the satin finish formula is hydrating and so comfortable.
Emily’s neutral lippie: NYX Cosmetics Lip Lingerie Lingerie XXL Matte Liquid Lipstick in XXPOSE ME, $17
Liquid lipsticks are my kryptonite as they’re ultra long-wearing and apply like a dream. There’s something about this soft peachy pink shade that’s extra special—it’s hands down my most inquired about lipstick shade when I wear it. It truly is the little black dress of lipsticks as it goes with every makeup look (even little to no makeup) and in a pinch I can even use it on my cheeks. Not to mention, this shade is just so dang complementary with my skin tone!
bright ideas
Ingrie’s bright lippie: M.A.C. Cosmetics Retro Matte Lipstick in Relentlessly Red, $31
When I need to dial things alllll the way up, this is the shade to get the job done. With next-level vibrancy, this pinkish coral infuses my aura with feel-good energy like a Vitamin B12 shot to the soul. A true force with all-season mileage, it has the power to warm my skin tone in the dull, grey dead of winter and radiates even brighter alongside a sun-kissed glow.
Emily’s bright lippie: MAC Cosmetics M.A.C.XIMAL Silky Matte Lipstick in Flamingo, $33
This one is a nostalgic pick for me. This vibrant coral came out years ago as a limited edition lipstick (it had a different, more sheer texture back then) and MAC recently relaunched it when they gave their matte lipsticks a makeover. This shade is just so…happy. It brightens up a tired looking complexion and feels like a vacation in a tube. The rich texture is super pigmented and it’s got staying power to boot. What’s not to love?
